Mobile App Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 October 2026
This policy explains how Petchey Car Hire Ltd collects and uses personal data when you use the Petchey Cars mobile app. Our privacy and cookie policy covers bookings made by phone, online and through this website.
Your consent when you install the app
Under data protection law we must tell you who we are, how we use your personal data and why, and what your rights are. When you install the app you will be asked to agree to us using your personal data (including your name, contact details, location and device information) as described in this policy.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. This does not affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
Location data
The app will ask whether you agree to it using your location (from your phone’s GPS), so it can set your pick-up point and show nearby vehicles. If you say no, or later switch location off in your phone’s settings, location features will not work but you can still type in your address.
Who we are
Petchey Car Hire Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the controller and is responsible for your personal data. This policy applies to our mobile app once you have downloaded it to your phone or tablet, and to the services you use through it. The app is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data about children.

We keep this policy under review. Any changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, shown to you next time you open the app.
The data we collect about you
- Identity data: name, title, username or similar identifier.
- Contact data: home and billing address, email address and telephone number.
- Payment data: payment card details, held by our payment providers.
- Transaction data: details of bookings made, completed or cancelled.
- Device data: the type of phone or tablet, a unique app installation ID and your IP address.
- Profile data: your username, password and preferences.
- Usage data: how you use the app.
- Marketing data: your marketing and communication preferences.
- Location data: your current location (if you allow it), your home address and saved favourite places.
We also use aggregated data, such as statistics on how many people use a feature. This does not identify you. If we ever combine it with your personal data so that it could identify you, we treat it as personal data under this policy.
How we collect your data
- Information you give us when you register, book a journey, rate a journey, report a problem or contact us. We keep a record of any correspondence.
- Information about your device and use of the app, collected automatically each time you use it, using technologies similar to cookies.
- Location data from your phone’s GPS, only if you allow it.
- Information from other organisations: payment providers (payment and transaction data), our booking system provider and, where used, analytics providers (device data).
How we use your data
We only use your personal data when the law allows it: with your consent, to perform our contract with you, for our legitimate interests (where your rights do not override them), or to meet a legal obligation.
- Installing the app and registering you (identity, contact, payment and device data): consent and contract.
- Quotes, bookings, journeys and payments (identity, contact, payment, transaction, device, location and marketing data): consent, contract and legitimate interests.
- Managing our relationship with you, including telling you about changes to the app or our terms (identity, contact, profile and marketing data): contract, legitimate interests and legal obligation.
- Running and protecting the app and our business, including troubleshooting, testing and security (identity, contact, device, transaction, usage and location data): legitimate interests.
- Improving our services and telling you about offers (identity, contact, device, profile, usage, marketing and location data): consent and legitimate interests.
We only send marketing by email or text message if you have agreed to it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing [email protected]. We never share your data with other companies for their own marketing.
Who we share your data with
- Our drivers, so they can carry out your journey.
- Other licensed private hire operators, if we cannot carry out your booking ourselves, so they can.
- IT service providers who run the app and our booking and dispatch system (including Autocab).
- Payment providers, to take payments securely.
- Our insurers and claims handlers, to deal with insurance claims.
- Transport for London, the police and other authorities, where the law requires it or to investigate a crime.
- Analytics providers, to help us improve the app.
- A buyer or successor, if all or part of our business is sold or merged. They may use your data as described in this policy.
International transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside the UK. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected by one of these safeguards: the country has been found by the UK Government to give adequate protection; or we use the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum approved by the ICO; or the provider is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Keeping your data secure
Your information is stored on secure servers and card payments are encrypted. If you have a password for the app, please keep it private and do not share it. We have procedures to deal with any suspected data breach and will tell you and the ICO where we are legally required to.
How long we keep your data
We keep booking records for at least 12 months, as Transport for London requires, and basic customer records (contact, identity and transaction data) for up to 6 years after you stop being a customer, for legal and tax reasons. In some cases we anonymise data so it can no longer identify you, and may then keep it for statistics.
Your rights
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to correct incomplete or inaccurate data.
- Erasure: ask us to delete your data where there is no good reason for us to keep it. Sometimes we must keep data for legal reasons, and we will tell you if so.
- Objection: object to us using your data for our legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
- Restriction: ask us to pause using your data, for example while its accuracy is checked.
- Transfer: ask for the data you gave us in a common, machine-readable format, for you or another organisation.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on your consent. If you do, some services may no longer be available, and we will tell you if that is the case.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.
